Felix Magath announces Hertha farewell

Hertha BSC managed to stay up and head coach Felix Magath did his job. The capital club will also play in the Bundesliga next season – but without the 68-year-old.

After the rescue of Hertha BSC, coach Felix Magath announced his departure from the Bundesliga club. “Now that’s it. My job is over now. I’m glad and happy that we stayed in the league,” said the 68-year-old after the 2-0 (1-0) win in the relegation second leg at Hamburger SV late Monday evening .

Magath has never been relegated

The veteran had succeeded the hapless Tayfun Korkut at Hertha in mid-March. In seven Bundesliga games, the Berliners managed two wins and one draw with four defeats under Magath’s direction.

Magath was just able to prevent the seventh Berlin crash in the club’s history in the 2nd Bundesliga after the 0:1 in the first leg in the relegation. For Magath it would have been the first relegation of his decades-long career.
