Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva to PSG €65m / Latest Transfer News

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, left, and Thiago Silva, right, both look set to be playing for PSG in Ligue 1 next season.

Milan have agreed to sell their striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the defender Thiago Silva to Paris Saint Germain, the club’s owner Silvio Berlusconi was reported as saying on Thursday.

“Yes, I have sold Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva to PSG. We’ll save 150 million euros in two years,” Berlusconi was quoted as saying on the website of Gazzetta dello Sport.

It said the final details of the sale had not been agreed but the two players would move on for around €65m (£51.5m).

Ibrahimovic, who was Serie A’s top scorer last season, managing 28 goals as Milan finished runners-up to Juventus, was contracted to the Rossoneri for another three years. The 30-year-old had spent two seasons at Milan, the first on loan from Barcelona, before signing on a permanent deal the following summer.

PSG’s sporting director Leonardo revealed earlier on Thursday he was due to meet the striker’s agent. The former Milan coach, who talked with Sweden’s captain in his home country on Wednesday, told Gazzetta dello Sport: “The negotiation is ongoing and we have spoken in Sweden. At this time everything is possible because the transfer market is like this, it’s always open. We will soon meet with [Ibrahimovic’s agent] Mino Raiola and we will see what happens. But a deal can only be considered completed once it is done.”

Silva has been strongly linked with a move to the French capital throughout the summer but he appeared to have committed his future to Milan when after the Italian club turned down a reported £36.35m bid from PSG for the player, he signed a new lucrative contract to keep him at the San Siro until June 2017.

Only two days ago Silva claimed that he “never thought of leaving” the Rossoneri this summer. The powerful 27-year-old has been at Milan since 2009 after signing from Fluminense in Brazil.

The two signings will continue the summer recruitment drive of PSG and Carlo Ancelotti, backed by the new Qatari owners, as they look to land the Ligue 1 title and make an impact in the Champions League. They had previously brought in the Argentina striker Ezequiel Lavezzi from Napoli for a reported £24m.
