Erhan Yavuz, a successful jockey from Turkey, was awarded the Fair Play Grand Prize Award for a general attitude of sportsmanship by the International Fair Play Committee.

Wien / NationalTurk – Fair Play Awards of 2011 were announced at International Fair Play Committee’s meeting during the 1st ever Youth Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria.

Mr. Erdogan Aripinar, a Board Member of International Fair Play Committee, defined that the Grand Prize for a general attitude of sportsmanship was attributed to Erhan Yavuz.

Mr. Akpinar stated that it is the first time the Grand Prize for a general attitude of sportsmanship was given to a jockey.

World Fair Play Award goes to heroic Turkish jockey

Turkish jocker Erhan Yavuz was also awarded the Fair Play Plate in Turkey by Mr. Mehmet Mehdi Eker, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, on 23th of August 2011.

At the Plevne Stakes run in August 2011, Erhan Yavuz noticed that the horse Gelibolu’s rein strap has been ruptured and its rider Halis Karatas was in a dangerous situation at the last 1300 meters. Jockey Yavuz came closer to Gelibolu and brought the ruptured parts to his opponent Halis Karatas and provided him to finish the race safely. Gelibolu was the winner of the Plevne Stakes and Erhan Yavuz, showed a great example of fair play, finished the race at the 4th place with his horse Eskisehirli.
