A pregnant woman in India’s financial hub Mumbai was stuck in a struck jam and gave birth to a baby in a three-wheeler.
Mumbai, Sept 17/Nationalturk – A pregnant woman in India’s financial hub Mumbai gave birth to a baby boy in a three-wheeler after being stuck in a massive traffic jam.
According to media reports, 30-year-old pregnant woman Seema Shaikh and her husband Akbar left their home at Asalfa Village, Ghatkopar (West) in Mumbai at 10 am.
Seema had complained of labour pain and her husband wanted to shift her to Sant Muktabai hospital, barely five minutes journey from their residence.
Report said the duo boarded the three-wheeler to reach the hospital. “However, there was massive traffic jam and they got stuck in jam at Nari Seva Sadan Road. All kinds of vehicular traffic came to a standstill due to traffic jam and during this process, Seema went into labour”.
As her pain intensified, she was unable to move and it forced her husband to give up his plan to take her to hospital on foot. Within five minutes after going into labour, the woman delivered a baby boy in the three-wheeler.
‘It all happened very fast’
“Due to heavy traffic jam, my wife delivered a baby boy in three wheeler. It all happened very fast and I can’t explain the mental agony we went through during this process,” said woman’s husband Akbar.
After delivering the baby, the woman and her husband proceeded to hospital in the vicinity on foot and got the newly born admitted there. “The mother and son are both doing fine,” said doctors attending on the pregnant woman and her child.
‘Hospital was only five-minutes away’
The driver of three-wheeler Manoj Rathod said the hospital was only five minutes away from the place where he picked the woman-husband duo.
“We were stranded for over 20 minutes due to traffic jam and failed to reach hospital on time. The woman got into labour and delivered a baby boy in my three wheeler,” he said.
The traffic jams are not new in India and have become routine in most parts of the country. During occasions, the traffic remains jammed for hours making it impossible for people travelling in vehicles to reach their destination.
