Chantal Beyer posed with her husband Sven Fouche beside the rhinos moments before one of them attacked her strangely, causing severe body injury to her.
Officials say the incident is very strange since rhinos are known to be friendly and does not attack people often unless under serious circumstance.
The Beeld newspaper reported that the 24-year-old woman was seriously injured and has to be rushed to the hospital to seek medical care for her.
She suffered injuries to her shoulder, lungs and ribs after being gored at the Aloe Ridge Hotel and Game Reserve, some 40km from Johannesburg.
The woman is believed to be a student from the West Rand and was at the game reserve with her husband and several other people when this unfortunate incident happened to her.
She is however reported to be responding to treatment at the hospital and is in a stable condition.
South Africa is reported to be the home to some three-quarters of the world’s rhinoceros population of about 28,000 animals according to official statistic figure available.
The rhinos contribute to the tourism sector of the economy by serving as a species of which people travel all over the world from to catch a glimpse of them.
But the country has seen a substantial rise in poaching in the past year amid a reported growing demand for rhino horn in parts of Asia especially in China and Vietnam where it is believed to have medicinal powers.
