White House: Jeff Zients will be the new chief of staff
The US President reportedly wants to make his former corona adviser Jeff Zients the new chief of staff in the presidential office.
The 56-year-old advised Biden on how to manage the pandemic until April 2022.
According to media reports, the former Corona coordinator in the White House, Jeff Zients, is to become the new chief of staff for US President Joe Biden.
Two people familiar with Biden’s environment confirmed to the “AP” that the President wanted to appoint Zients as the successor to the previous chief of staff, Ron Klain. An official confirmation was still pending. Klain wants to give up the important post in the White House in the coming weeks.
Lots of management experience
After being responsible for the US government’s corona strategy at the beginning of Biden’s tenure, Zients later returned to the White House, where he was most recently entrusted with personnel tasks. Zients brings extensive experience in government and private sector leadership roles. Among other things, he was a manager at the consulting firm Advisory Board Company.
His political career began when he was responsible for repairing the HealthCare.gov website, which allowed US citizens to buy health insurance under President Barack Obama’s health care reforms. When it started in 2013, however, there were numerous problems with the site. Under Obama, Zients served as director of the National Economic Council and previously headed the Bureau of Administration and Budgeting.
After Biden’s election as president, he served as vice chairman of the transition team preparing his presidency.
