When it comes to Hummels, Gottschalk falls silent
Thomas Gottschalk doesn't think much of influencers - and Cathy Hummels also falls into this category for him. This became clear at his reading in Berlin.
Thomas Gottschalk is on a reading tour promoting his new book “Unfiltered”. After his opening in Hamburg, the entertainer will be a guest at the Pfefferberg Theater in Berlin on Thursday evening.
In front of a full house, the 74-year-old appears to be in a good mood – and the around 200 guests in the theater hall are also visibly happy. t-online follows the evening live on site and is particularly amazed by a moment in which Gottschalk becomes surprisingly taciturn.
The former “Wetten, dass ..?” star repeatedly vents his anger about influencers in front of his audience, slandering a generation that rose to fame with followers on Instagram and earns money from it. He then also talks about a certain Cathy Hummels. The moderator’s facial expression speaks volumes: Gottschalk doesn’t seem to think much of the 36-year-old.
He then starts with an anecdote. “Cathy Hummels offered to promote my book,” Gottschalk begins his story and then waves it off: “But I’d rather not say anything else now, otherwise I’ll end up in trouble.” Then he looks questioningly around and says: “Or should I spill the beans about Cathy Hummels?” When the audience audibly agrees and wishes that Gottschalk would continue with his gossip, he just waves it off. “Better not,” he explains and then quickly changes the subject.
Sideswipe against Hummels at Oktoberfest
What exactly does Thomas Gottschalk have against Cathy Hummels? Unclear. Hummels never sat on his ZDF couch as a guest, so he never experienced any “official contact” from the then “Wetten, dass ..?” moderator. Otherwise, few professional contacts between the two are documented.
Instead, what is known is a not so long ago dig by the presenter at Cathy Hummels. When the influencer announced this year that she would wear twelve different dirndls at Oktoberfest, Gottschalk criticized her sharply: “You don’t have to wear twelve dirndls if you go to Oktoberfest twelve times. That’s absurd.” His wife uses “two dirndls, one is recycled. We also pay attention to our ecological footprint,” said Gottschalk.
The entertainer also announced that he had received an offer from Cathy Hummels and the local broadcaster Munich TV to have the 36-year-old give him a makeover. Hummels also hosted her Oktoberfest talk show on the channel. But Gottschalk was not interested and turned it down – just as he did with the offer of a promo for his new book.
