The Ivory Coast player ace could be on his way out of the Arnhem outfit with Chelsea taking keen interest in signing the striker this summer.
Reports from GelreDome Stadion confirm that Chelsea are taking keen interest in signing Vitesse Arnhem striker, Wilfried Bony, before the ongoing summer transfer window slams shut. The Ivorian ace, who joined the Arnhem outfit half-way through the 2010/11 season after representing Sparta Prague in over 50 league appearances, has been performing consistently at GelreDome Stadion since his arrival.
Netting an impressive 15 goals while setting up plenty more in 35 Eredivisie appearances, the 23-year-old is an integral part of the squad. His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, as a couple of English Premier League sides have expressed their interest in luring the striker away from GelreDome Stadion before the start of the 2012/13 season.
However, the Vitesse management has made it clear that they do not want to part ways with the Ivorian international, and have insisted that any interested parties will need to table a bid in excess of 14 million Euros, if they are to land his signature this summer. The strong striker, who played an integral role in his side’s impressive seventh place finish on the Eredivisie table in the 2011/12 season, has long been a target for Chelsea.
Reports suggest that the UEFA Champions League winners are the favourites to sign the talented attacker this summer, as they enjoy a good relationship with the Arnhem outfit. Meanwhile, Newcastle are on the lookout to add a quality striker to their squad, and the club management has shortlisted FC Twente Enschede’s Luuk de Jong and Vitesse’s Wilfried Bony as the possible additions.
Chelsea Transfer News: Andre Schurrle To Stamford Bridge For £20 Million?
Chelsea are prepared to offer an improved £20 million bid for Bayer Leverkusen striker Andre Schurrle.
The European Champions had previously offered £17 million for the 21-year-old Germany striker which was instantly rejected earlier this month by Leverkusen, who are keen on keeping their star striker. It is expected that the Stamford Bridge club are going back in with a bigger offer.
Schurrle scored nine goals in 40 appearances at the BayArena last term, something of a disappointment for the player who didn’t have the best of seasons last term. His goal scoring record for the national team is impressive, scoring seven goals in 14 matches for this country.
The attacker is said to be versatile in his position play and is able to play on either flank or as an old fashioned striker.
Chelsea are in the market for new attacking players after Salomon Kalou and Didier Drogba left the London club on free transfers this summer. The Blues were quick to bring in Eden Hazard and Marko Marin as new options but with questions mark still hanging over Fernando Torres and his ability to be prolific again, Chelsea still want another striker in and if they can agree a fee with Leverkusen, Schurrle could be the man.
