Visit to Berlin: MP Kauder criticized PM Erdogan election campaign in Germany / Turkey Breaking News
Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan is in Germany for votes – and comes from the CDU with little enthusiasm. Union parliamentary leader Volker Kauder warns: Erdogan should not complicate the integration of German-Turks.
Thousands of supporters are expected on Tuesday when Recep Tayyip Erdogan occurs on Tuesday evening in Berlin Tempodrom, Angela Merkel welcomes the Turkish Prime Minister earlier in the Chancellery. But in their party can see the trip Erdogan, who was raised in the summer for re-election, extremely skeptical.
“Everybody can talk freely in Germany, as long as he keeps to the rules of democracy,” said Union parliamentary leader Volker Kauder . He was important, said the CDU politician, “that the speech of Mr. Erdogan does not contain anything, which complicates the integration of the Turkish population.”
The admonition Kauder alludes to an appearance of Erdogan in the Cologne Arena in 2008, in which he warned the approximately three million German-Turks to assimilate. Such “cultural fusion” was a “crime against humanity”. His speech had triggered a heated debate on integration.
“Erdogan could here once take a significant commitment to religious freedom in Turkey,” Kauder calls now. “Because he wants with Turkey to Europe.”
The Union faction leader is considered as a critic of EU accession for Turkey. Just last summer Kauder had further negotiations conditional on that the Turkish state more respect the rights of Christians. Even the violence of the Turkish security forces against demonstrators in Istanbul last summer had sharply criticized Kauder.
Now the CDU politician appeals to the Turkish citizens living in Germany, not to mention the former hard line of Erdogan’s government. “I hope that living here Turkish voters have followed exactly what happened last summer in Turkey, and wonder if that was so fine.”
