Over Three Dozen Villages Affected by Floods in India

As rivers continue to flow above the danger mark, over three dozen villages in Lakhimpur district of Uttar Pradesh have been badly affected.

Speaking to media about the damage district magistrate of Lakhimpur Rishikesh Bhaskar said, “As a result of massive rainfall for the past one month, 33 villages have been badly affected. About 2,246 people have been affected because of this. Two people have also been killed a as a result of floods.”

The villagers are forced to break their own houses due to erosion.

“The erosion is continuing which is why we are breaking our houses. The houses are getting eroded by the rivers,” said Mohan Lal, a victim.

The rivers are also destroying the land that might lead to the complete damage of several villages.

The Sharda River has reached 13cms above the danger mark and is expected to cause further damages in the future.

The villagers are forced to live under the open sky and many have taken shelter inside schools.

The management has however assured that they have been providing help to the affected victims.
