Vienna: Two “subway surfers” still in intensive care
After the serious accident while "subway surfing" at the U4 Schönbrunn station, an 18-year-old is still in critical condition, according to the AKH. A 17-year-old is also in intensive care.
A 13-year-old boy was unharmed, a 16-year-old suffered minor injuries.
The daring action of the quartet consisting of two Czechs and two Austrians began shortly after 4 p.m. when the men climbed onto the roof of the subway coming from the direction of Hütteldorf and rode along. Two of them then hit a pedestrian bridge as they entered the Schönbrunn station and suffered life-threatening injuries. The professional rescue service and the Samaritan Association took the two Czechs to hospitals.
Videos are being analyzed
The subway driver received crisis psychological care. The operation of the U4 was then temporarily interrupted between Meidling Hauptstraße and Braunschweiggasse. The exact course of events will be analyzed together with the police using video analysis, explained Wiener Linien.
In this context, Wiener Linien pointed out that such actions and dares always involve a risk to life. “We urgently appeal to people to refrain from such reckless and life-threatening actions. No TikTok video, dare or selfie in the world is worth climbing onto a subway or tram and risking your life,” said a spokeswoman.
“Anyone who notices a dangerous situation should immediately activate the emergency call devices in the vehicles or on the platform.” In addition, they were asked not to share any videos of the incident on social media platforms for preventive reasons.
