Australia’s Tasmania Zoo is the scene of a horrible crime against animals. Vandal slayed several exotic birds, including endangered species, by ripping their heads off or smashing them until no bones left uncrushed.

Australia / NationalTurk – Vandal alert at Tasmania Zoo in Australia !

Australian vandals went on a rampage and killing spree at an Australian zoo, Tasmania. 9 birds, including an endangered swift parrot, had their heads smashed in or ripped off and more than 60 animals were missing.

Tasmania Zoo owner Dick Warren made the shocking discovery. He found the mutilated corpses of the animals when he opened up the Zoo, only to find all the locks had been cut, with birds missing and birds dead, their heads having been seperated from their tiny bodies.

Dick Warren told later ABC Television in Australia : ‘Either they have just caught the birds and banged their heads or ripped their heads off, it’s a pretty sick thing to see,’

Exotic birds and native cat among the animals on the loose from Tasmania Zoo in Australia

‘ It’s heartbreaking to see the birds in that condition. It hits you so hard.’ Australian police stated ‘ a number of animals escaped their enclosures, with most being recaptured,’ adding that two chainsaws were also stolen from the zoo complex. Two rare swift parrots, a yellow-tailed black cockatoo, and five quolls, a carnivorous native cat, were among the animals still on the loose in what was described as a devastating blow for the zoo’s breeding program. Keeper Courtney McMahon sadly said ‘We’re trying to increase numbers of threatened species and we’ve lost a good part of that program,’

Endangered species like Tasmanian Devils breeding was part of a national program in the raided Tasmania Zoo

The tasmania zoo is also part of a national breeding program for the endangered Tasmanian devil, which is almost extinct in the Australian wild due to a contagious facial tumour, and keeper McMahon stated it was a huge relief no devils had been freed. ‘ The way that the birds were released, if these devils were released like that it would be a death sentence to them,’ the female keeper buzzed.
