A US embassy official in Pakistan was arrested from an airport after loaded pistol was recovered from his luggage.
Islamabad, July 18/Nationalturk – A United States citizen, who is reportedly an employee of US embassy in Pakistan, was arrested from an airport for carrying a pistol and bullets in his luggage.
“William Jones, reportedly a US embassy official in Pakistan, was detained by Airport Security Force (ASF) men at Benazir Bhutto International (BBI) airport in Islamabad, Pakistan capital today,” a security official said.
He said Jones, who was returning to America via Abu Dhabi, was detained after ASF men a 9mm pistol and a magazine containing 15 bullets from his luggage during checking in the airport.
Sources said Jones was serving as a trainee in the US embassy.
Detained US citizen being questioned
The official said the detained American citizen was handed over to police for investigation.
“Jones is being interrogated by a team of officials to ascertain the reason for him carrying a weapon and bullets in his luggage while travelling in a plane,” he said.
The official said American embassy in Islamabad has been appraised about the incident.
This is the second time this year that US citizen has been arrested from Pakistan airport after ammunition was recovered from his luggage.
Earlier, on May 5, Pakistan security men detained US Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) agent, Joel Cox, at Jinnah International Airport, in port city of Karachi for carrying 15 bullets of 9mm caliber and a pistol clip in his baggage.
He was later set free by the court.
