UEFA head Platini meets Turkish PM Erdogan in Ankara
Michel Platini, chairman of European soccer federation UEFA, has met today with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the duo discussed the match-fixing scandal in Turkey.
Ankara / NationalTurk – Michel Platini and Tayyip Erdogan met in advance of the annual UEFA Congress, this year taking place in Istanbul on March 22 with the participation of representatives of soccer leagues from 53 countries. The Turkish Football Federation will be represented by TFF president Yıldırım Demirören, who was the chairman of Besiktas Istanbul only 3 weeks ago.

UEFA President Michel Platini and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan conveyed for a meeting in Ankara, Turkey amid a match-fixing scandal that has implicated league champion Fenerbahce and caused it to lose its place in the Champions League. Monday’s meeting comes one week before the UEFA executive committee meeting and its annual congress to be held in Istanbul on 21st of March.

Fenerbahce’s imprisoned president Aziz Yildirim is a main defendant in the Turkish match fixing trial over the match rigging scandal that allegedly involves more than a dozen games last season. Aziz Yildirim denied in every hearing any wrongdoing.
Fenerbahce insists UEFA and the Turkish Football Federation has treated the match scandal case unfairly and has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, (CAS) seeking €45 million ($58.5 million) in compensation for being tossed out of the Champions League earlier this season. Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan made no secret of he is a Fenerbahce fan.
