Paok had beaten Fenerbahçe 1-0 in their home ground a week ago, a game which was largely controlled by the Turkish side.
However Fenerbahçe failed to convert their chances and many had said that the Turkisg giants will “finish the Greek side off” in the second leg at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.
Though the Turkish side started the game in control they just could convert their countless chances into goals and by the end of the first half it should have been at least 2-0 to Fenerbahçe.
The second half started in a more positive not for the Istanbul side with Emre Belözoğlu ’s long distance strike passing the goalkeeper and making it 1-0 to Fenerbahçe (1-1 on aggregate)
Fenerbahçe continued to dominated and though Paok had a few good chances, like Fenerbahçe the Greek side failed to score.
Due to the 1-1 aggregate score the game was taken into Extra Time where Fenerbahçe continued to dominate but the goal came on behalf of Paok after a dazzling run by Zlatan Muslimovic who smashed the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the post making keeper Volkan Demirel just watch in horror.
Fenerbahçe failed to convert any other of their chances and once the final whistle had blown, the joy of the Paok players and supporters were worth watching with players jumping on each other and fans crying with joy.
This was a terrible month for Fenerbahçe in terms of European football. The Turkish giants had first been eliminated from the Champions league by Young Boys and now were eliminated by Paok.
Fenerbahçe will now concentrate on the Turkish Super League and the Turkish Cup.
