Two people died early this morning in an accident in Havelte. It concerns a 21-year-old man from the municipality of Westerveld and a 16-year-old girl from the municipality of De Wolden.
They died on the spot, according to police. The accident happened this morning around 5.10 am on Ossenweidenweg.
The driver of the car, a 19-year-old man from the municipality of Westerveld, was seriously injured, as was an 18-year-old passenger from the same municipality. Another 16-year-old girl was injured. They have been taken to hospital.
Several occupants were trapped after the accident, police said. In addition to the police and ambulances, the fire brigade and a trauma helicopter also came to the site of the accident. Police are investigating how the accident could have happened.
Mayor Rikus Jager of the Westerveld municipality is shocked. “Terrible. A huge drama for those involved and their families.”
