Turkish, Iran Presidents Discuss Regional Developments
In a meeting with the Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad in Istanbul on Monday, on the sidelines of the Fourth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC-IV), Turkish President Abdullah Gul discussed works directed at the least developed countries and the regional developments.
During Monday’s meeting with Gul, Ahmadinejad stressed that the aims of the “movements” in the region were democracy.
Ahmadinejad informed President Gul that Turkey made great progress and that he was happy to see such a progress.
President Gul told Ahmadinejad that Turkey paid high attention to the least developed countries and that, aside from political matters, Turkey worked on solution of the problems of the least developed countries.
In return, Ahmadinejad expressed that Turkey’s policy on the least developed countries was a right one.”The fight against poverty is a global duty,” Ahmadinejad said.
Touching on the recent developments in the region, President Ahmadinejad said that the peoples had the right to elect leaders and that the goals of the “movements” in the region were democracy.
“However, peoples in the region do not have leaders,” Ahmadinejad also said.
In a meeting with the President of the sixty-fifth session of the United Nations General Assembly Joseph Deiss, President Gul said that humanitarian issues were an important dimension of Turkish foreign policy in recent years.
In his meeting with the President of Zambia, Rupiah Banda, President Gul said that Turkey wanted to make investments in Zambia and support vocational training.
In a meeting with the President of Benin, Thomas Yayi Boni, President Gul said that he gave directives to Turkish authorities in order to open an embassy in Benin.
President Boni, while speaking with Gul, extended an invitation to Turkish entrepreneurs to come to Benin and make investments.
