Istanbul head of Turkish Intelligence Agency (MİT) deposed from office and stationed back in Ankara. His involvement in the Turkey match fixing case and relation with jailed and now trialed Fenerbahce boss Yıldırım eyed closely.
Istanbul / NationalTurk – The Istanbul chief of Turkey’s National Intelligence Agency who was identified only by his initials İ.N, has been removed from his post and recalled back to Ankara. He will be replaced and pass on his duties to A.D., another MIT official identified only by his initials.
After top rank officials of the National Intelligence Agency (MİT) had been summoned prosecutor’s office to give their statements about two weeks ago, a series of new appointments at the police and the judiciary had followed before a new change of personnel was announced for the MİT
The replacement decision was declared to have been made in accordance with a decision made in January and was related to the Turkey’s ongoing match–fixing investigation, sources stated.
Former MİT Istanbul headquarters chief İ.N. has allegedly told Fenerbahce President Aziz Yıldırım of the match fixing probe and Yıldırım’s involvement in it, before the Fener boss was arrested as Turkish match fixing scandal emerged in 3rd July 2011. Recent documents reveal that Aziz Yıldırım and İ.N has met on several occasions.
MİT’s Istanbul Regional Presidency is among the most important branches of the Turkish Intelligence Agency, having played a critical role in obtaining intelligence prior to acts of terrorism, operations against the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) and many other counter–intelligence ops. The Istanbul Regional Directorate is seen as one of the most essential units within the MİT and the position of the president is assumed as the direct way to a promotion to the MİT Deputy Undersecretary.
