A Turkish flagged cargo carrier has been hijacked from the Indian Ocean yesterday a maritime group said on Wednesday.
The ship named as “YASIN-C” with 25 personal all of Turkish Nationality was hijacked was travelling to Mombasa port in Kenya before Somalian pirates hijacked the 36,300-ton bulk carrier from east of Kenya.
Ecoterra said Wednesday “After a prolonged attack in the Indian Ocean at a position around 250 nautical miles east of Kenya the Turkey-flagged 36,300-ton bulk carrier MV YASIN C was overpowered by presumed Somali pirates this afternoon,”
The EUNFN (European Union Naval Force Navfo) which operates in anti-piracy operations in the waters off Africa confirmed that “a Turkish frigate, which is part of NATO, has received distress call from the ship before it was seized by pirates”.
