Turkey and Russia set to visasTurkey and Russia are preparing to sign a visa exemption agreement during Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev’s visit to Turkey.

Turkey’s Ambassador to Moscow Halil Akıncı told that “The consulates of the two countries have initialed the agreement to lift visa procedures.”

Turkey’s Ambassador to Moscow Halil Akıncı added that Russia requests small edits to the agreement, but Dmitriy Medvedev and Turkish President Abdullah Gül could sign it without waiting for the domestic approval process to finish.

Visa-free transitions between the two countries will begin this year. Initial efforts for the removal of visa procedures first came up during Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Moscow last January. The two countries have launched studies, as Russia was also supportive of the move.
