Three falls in two days – that was too much for cyclist Christopher Froome: The top favorite and last year’s winner had to finish on the fifth stage of the Tour de France. He was gone already struck at the start.

Defending champion Christopher Froome has given up on the fifth leg of the 101 Tour de France. The 29-year-old Brit from Team Sky came on the challenging part of the day by the Belgian Ypres in French Arenberg  twice to case and rose some 65 kilometers from the finish, with pain face in a team vehicle.

On the day before Froome had fallen on the section of Le Touquet-Paris-Plage to Lille Métropole without his own fault, he suffered numerous abrasions and a wrist injury. After the fall on Wednesday jersey and pants of the British were shredded.

Also for the former Tour winner and co-favorite Andy Schleck the 101 Tour de France has already ended. The Luxembourg no longer went to yesterday’s fourth stage. The shared his Trek team on Tuesday. Schleck had suffered in a crash on the third stage from Cambridge to London violations at the meniscus and ligaments in his right knee.
