
A top militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba was killed in an exchange of fire with security men in Indian Kashmir on Thursday.
Srinagar, May 23/Nationalturk – A top militant owing allegiance to Pakistan based militant group Lashkar-e-Toiba was killed in an exchange of fire with security men in Indian administered Kashmir on Thursday morning.
A top police officer said acting on specific information, police and paramilitary soldiers laid siege around in Narparistan, Fatah Kadal, some 4 kms from Srinagar, summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir this morning.
He said the militant was trapped and asked to surrender. “He, however, turned down the offer and fired towards the search party. In the ensuing firefight, which continued for some time, top militant of Lashkar was killed”.
The police officer identified the deceased militant as Hilal Molvi. “He was a Kashmiri militant and belonged to North Kashmir”.
He said some arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site.
3 policemen injured in shoot-out
Kashmir’s police chief Abdul Ghani Mir told reporters that three policemen were injured in the gunfight. “They have been hospitalized”.
He said the deceased militant Hilal Molvi was killed active from four to five years and termed his killing as yet another jolt to Lashkar-e-Toiba.
The region has seen an armed militancy against Indian rule since 1989. However, the violence has dropped considerably in recent years.
