Thousands dead in Haiti Earthquake
A 7.0 magnitude earthquake has struck capital Port-au-Prince the capital of Haiti which is expected have killed thousands as buildings have turned into rubble and the dead lie on the streets.
Thousands are feared to have died in the impoverished Caribbean nation and tens of thousands are homeless.
Aftershocks of up to 6.0 magnitude were recorded as thousands fled to the streets looking for loved ones in panic.
The tremor, thought to be the most powerful to hit Haiti in more than 200 years, stuck at 4.53pm local time. Thousands gathered in public squares late into the night, singing hymns and weeping.

The headquarters of the UN’s peacekeeping mission and other installations were seriously damaged, as was Haiti’s presidential palace. The UN said a large number of its personnel were unaccounted for.
Louis-Gerard Gilles, a doctor and former senator who went to help survivors, reported that hospitals could not handle all the victims. “Haiti needs to pray. We all need to pray together,” he said. There were reports of people screaming for help from a wrecked hospital in the Petionville district of the city.
The buildings have turned into rubble as can be seen from videos that have been posted on to video sharing websites. According to reports a hospital has also collapsed leaving several hundred dead.
