Southern Victoria city has been shaken by a 4,5 magnitude earthquake today. It is less than one month after a massive quake rattled Gippsland.
Gary Gibson – Seismologist at the Seismology Research Centre has confirmed with 3AW that the latest shake has been a magnitude 4.5 aftershock east of Thorpdale.
One of the Brunswick residents from Melbourne’s inner north has told she came home to check her email when she felt the tremor today afternoon. She said : ‘ Well, I had just got home and sat down to check my e-mail, when I felt the building shake and the windows and the objects on my desk rattle ‘.
According to clima researchers report, it was an earthquake of magnitude 4,5 which has strucked 117km east-southeast of Melbourne.

The aftershock was strong enough to spark reports of small objects moving and pictures shaking on the walls. The State Emergency Sercive (SES) spokesman said that during the last Victorian earthquake emergency services received around 20 thousand phone calls just to confirm the earthquake had taken place.
The scientist added that the aftershocks could conceivably carry on for a number of weeks. Members of the public have been urged not to dial triple zero unless there is an emergency.
Gary Mitchell, of Yallourn North, insisted the tremor felt bigger than last month’s quake. He said the last one broke 2 sets of crystals on the lights, but with this one they could see the corners of his house shake. The tremor sparked a social media flurry, with dozens of Melbourne residents reporting similar incidents.
