The footballer and his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez had been looking forward to the birth of their twins. But now a tragedy overshadows the happiness of the family: one of the babies has died.
At the end of October 2021, Cristiano Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez announced that they were expecting children again. A little later, the couple revealed that they will be twins – a boy and a girl. But now the football star is turning to his fans with sad news: one of the babies has died.
“It is with deep sadness that we must announce the death of our son. It is the greatest pain a parent can feel,” Cristiano Ronaldo wrote in a statement on Instagram. He and his family are “devastated by this loss and ask for privacy at this difficult time.”
“You are our angel”
The couple had announced that the twins should be born in the spring. Whether there were complications before, during or after the delivery and what exactly led to the boy’s death is not clear from the statement.
The daughter seems to be fine because “only the birth of our little girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness,” the footballer continues, thanking “the doctors and nurses for their care and support.” Finally he turns to his dead son and writes: “Our little boy, you are our angel. We will always love you.”
Cristiano Ronaldo is already the father of Cristiano Ronaldo Jr., who was born in 2010. His twins Eva and Mateo were born in 2017 and, like the first-born, were carried by a surrogate mother. Just a few months later, the Portuguese and Georgina Rodriguez became parents of their daughter Alana Martina for the first time.
