The Dutch conglomerate Royal Reesink has announced that it will discontinue its traditional brand Kaweco at the end of the year. Kaweco is a manufacturer of wood chippings transport wagons, slurry tankers and farm loaders. The brand was launched in 1963. After December 31, 2024, all activities at the Hengelo production site (near Enschede) will be terminated.
According to the Dutch trade media “Trekker”, employees were already informed of the decision on Monday. Royal Reesink has been trying for months to find a buyer for the “Reesink Production” division. So far, however, the search has been unsuccessful.
Background to the decision
According to Royal Reesink, the production facility for Kaweco machines is not profitable enough. The company has now shifted its focus to the distribution and sale of agricultural and construction machinery – the production of such equipment is no longer the focus, it is said.
Royal Reesink is a Dutch conglomerate whose origins date back to 1786. It is based in Apeldoorn in Gelderland. Royal Reesink consists of around 40 individual companies on four continents – with a total of 2,500 employees.
Royal Reesink stops Kaweco
Yesterday, Royal Reesink announced that the activities of Reesink Production will cease. Reesink Production was mainly active under the brand name Kaweco, manufacturer of manure tanks, fertilizer spreaders, silage wagons and shovels. The activities will be terminated as of 31 December 2024.
The operation is loss-making, with the current circumstances on the market for agricultural machinery production further negatively affecting the results. With insufficient prospects for improvement, Royal Reesink could not find a buyer for Reesink Production. A cessation of the activities of Reesink Production was therefore the only responsible route.
All employees were informed on Monday 21 October. Royal Reesink has been looking for a buyer for Reesink Production for some time, but without result. The Kaweco brand has existed since 1963 and started at the time with the construction of manure tanks and irrigation reels.
