The Islamists had brought the Turks into their power, as they stormed the consulate in Mosul in northern Iraq on June 11. Among the hostages were next to the Consul General and other diplomats, soldiers and children.
The government in Ankara had the hostages always cited as a reason why they could not get more involved in the international fight against IS. Davutoglu said the liberation was the result of “days long week of hard work.” The detailed circumstances he did not comment.
Davutoglu announced to cancel his trip and Azerbaijan to travel from Baku in the südtürkische Urfa to meet the freed hostages there.
