High-Ranking Syrian Delegation Starts Official Visit to Tehran
A delegation of 15 Syrian ministers and high-ranking officials arrived in the Iranian capital, Tehran, in a bid to meet senior Iranian officials on bilateral ties and discuss regional and international issues.
Syrian Deputy Prime Minister Omar Ghallawanji is leading the delegation during the three-day visit which started on Tuesday.
A report by Syria’s al-Watan said that the delegation also includes the minister of petroleum and mineral wealth, minister of health, minister of housing and construction, chief of the Syrian planning and cooperation and chief of Syria’s central bank.
Other reports said that Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmed Arnous and two officials from Syria’s interior ministry are also in the delegation.
Abdolreza Qassemian, an economic advisor of Iran’s embassy in Damascus, said that the visit is aimed at expanding economic cooperation between Tehran and Damascus, specially at a time of increasing economic pressures on Syria by the western and Turkey some Arab states.
Iran and Syria have forged an alliance ever since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran and the two countries’ officials exchange visits on a regular basis.
