Syria apologizes for Turkish embassy attacks in Damascus
Syria’s foreign minister, Walid Muallem, issued Syria’s unformal apology today in a televised speech for protester attacks on Turkish and other foreign embassies in Damascus after the Arab League voted to suspend Syria from the bloc.
DAMASCUS / NationalTurk – ‘I, as foreign minister, apologize for this matter,’ Syrian FM Muallem told in a news conference in the Syrian capital, following the vulgar demos of pro-Assad protestors.
‘It is important … that this does not repeat itself. The protection of the embassies is part of our responsibilities. For this reason I apologize for what happened.’ the Syrian foreign minister continued.
Syria Protests : Embassies in Damascus attacked
Late Saturday last weekend, hundreds of angry Syrian demonstrators attacked the embassies of France, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey. upon arrival of news that Syria lost his membership status in the Arab League. Qatar and Saudi Arabia were among the countries that voted to suspend Syria from the Arab League. Turkey is not a member of the Arab League which has 22 countries as members.
