Bad news for the creators of Game of Thrones. A stunt woman is suing for millions of euros in damages. She is said to have injured herself so badly during a shoot that she can no longer work.
“Game of Thrones” was one of the most successful series in the world for many years. But now the makers of the TV hit are in trouble. Stuntwoman Casey Michaels is suing the London production company “Fire & Blood” for four million pounds (equivalent to around 4.71 million euros) in damages.
The background to the lawsuit is an accident on the set that is said to have occurred on February 5, 2018 during the shooting of the eighth and final season in Northern Ireland. Michaels plays one of the undead attackers in a scene in which Winterfell Fortress is attacked by an army of undead, the so-called White-Walkers. For the recording, the 32-year-old had to jump off a roof.
Serious leg injuries
Michael is said to have injured his legs so badly that she is now considered unable to work and, according to a report by the “Daily Mail”, not only had to give up her career as a stunt woman, but also her goal of working as a stunt coordinator and director.
She accuses the production company of not adequately securing the landing area for the stunt people. According to her, the four million pounds in compensation correspond to the amount she would have earned in the future if she had not been unable to work.
Potential for higher tasks
“She was a young stunt performer with serious potential,” said Michael’s attorney, Stephen Fry. “We think she had the potential to step up and become a stunt coordinator or second staff director,” continued Fry.
Whether the landing area really wasn’t safe will now be the subject of negotiations. The first video material is said to have already been viewed, but was not very revealing. The landing area should therefore not have been sufficiently recognizable.
