Stoltenberg: NATO ready to supply arms to Ukraine for years

NATO boss Jens Stoltenberg has promised Ukraine long-term support against Russia. “The Allies are ready to supply more and also more modern and heavier weapons,” he announced.

The NATO countries are ready to supply Ukraine with weapons for years to come in the fight against Russia. Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg made this clear in an interview with the British radio station BBC 4.

After the delivery of heavy weapons had not been discussed for fear of an escalation of the conflict, the NATO foreign ministers announced a change of course at a meeting in Brussels.

Stoltenberg said he could not go into individual weapon systems, but the effects of the weapons that had already reached Ukraine could be observed every day. “We see all the destroyed Russian war equipment, and we see that Ukraine has the ability to shoot down Russian missiles and planes,” said the Secretary General of the Western Defense Alliance, adding: “The Allies are ready for more and also more modern and heavier weapons to deliver.”

Macron: Putin wants to celebrate “victory” in Ukraine on May 9th

Russia had invaded Ukraine six weeks ago. After weeks of bloody fighting, Kremlin troops have pulled out of the Kyiv area, but a Russian offensive in eastern Ukraine is expected.

According to French President Emmanuel Macron, Russia’s ruler Vladimir Putin wants to concentrate the Russian attacks in Ukraine on the east of the country in order to be able to present a “victory” in Ukraine at the traditional celebration of victory in World War II. “For Russia, May 9 (the day of German surrender in 1945 Moscow time) is an important day for the military, and it is relatively clear that it must be a day of victory for President Putin,” Macron told RTL .

“We will see very bad scenes in the next few weeks,” Macron predicted. The evacuation action that France, together with Greece and Turkey, wanted to initiate for Mariupol was being “completely blocked” by the Russian side, he admitted.
