Soviet bomb discovered on Landsberger Allee
Large-scale operation on Landsberger Allee: A bomb from the Second World War was discovered on a construction site. There are many police officers on duty.
War ammunition was discovered on Wednesday morning during construction work in Berlin-Hohenschönhausen. A restricted area with a radius of 500 meters was set up around the site on Landsberger Allee, said a police spokeswoman.
Two schools, two daycare centers, two furniture stores, including an Ikea, a hardware store and several residential buildings are affected by the closures. A total of around 7,000 people have to leave the restricted area.
Many police forces are deployed to help evacuate the restricted area. Many other forces from the city area are also currently being used. Several police people carriers drove through the Mitte district with blue lights flashing.
Police said several roads were closed. Forensic scientists were on duty to examine the ammunition and see if it could be defused. The ammunition should have a length of 60 centimeters and a diameter of 30 centimeters. Exactly what this is about is currently unclear. The spokeswoman said it was certain that the bomb was of Soviet design. It is unclear how long the blockage on Landsberger Allee could last.
