South West China Storm Chaos as 29 reported dead

The death toll of the devastating storm which hit the Chongqing Municipality (city) South West China from Wednesday through to Thursday has risen to 29 with hundreds injured.

The storm which hit the huge city in South West China has devastated the area with homes being demolished, trees being uprooted, electricity and phone lines going down.

It was reported that gale winds, torrential rain and huge hail stones wrecked havoc in the city with a reported 190 people injured and at least 29 people reported killed as a result of the storm as of 3.45pm Thursday.

One of the worst effected areas, Dianjiang had over 980 buildings destroyed and over 10,000 buildings were severely damaged with the estimated cost as high as $17.6 million according to the xinhuanet news agency.

According to reports, Shaping township in the Dianjiang area saw winds of up to 112km while Pengshui county has over 157mm of rain within 24 hours causing floods in large areas.

China have been hit hard lately by natural disasters as a 7.1 magnitude earthquake just last month had resulted in 2,200 people being killed and over 100,000 people left homeless in the Yushu prefecture, Qinghai Province.
