Shooting in Washington – A youth dead, police officer injured
Several people were injured by gunfire in the American capital, and one youth was killed.
A hustle and bustle had broken out at a street festival beforehand. According to the police, the event was not authorized.
In the US capital Washington D.C. a youth was shot dead, three other people were injured. This was announced by the local police chief, Robert Contee, in the capital. This was preceded by a street festival that, according to the police, was not approved. According to Contee, the victim was 15 years old. The street festival took place on Juneteenth, a day commemorating the liberation of black Americans from slavery.
According to the police, there had been unrest at the festival beforehand: At first there were violent clashes, then participants were injured in a stampede. According to Contree, a police officer was among the wounded, and all three of the injured are being treated in hospital and are stable.
The police did not provide any information about a perpetrator. Several firearms were seized after the incident. The mayor, Muriel Bowser, also criticized the planning of the street festival, in which the authorities were not involved: “We have a child who was killed today at an event that was not properly planned,” Bowser said. “We need some accountability here.”
