Shakira: “I was loyal to him”
Shakira and Gerard Piqué were a couple for twelve years until they separated in 2022. Now the musician speaks openly about her relationship with the footballer.
Fans could hardly believe it when it became public at the beginning of 2022 that Shakira and Gerard Piqué were going their separate ways.
The singer and the kicker were a couple for twelve years and over time they founded a family. They have two sons together. The reason for the separation was probably an affair on the part of the athlete. Shakira had given up a lot for the family.
Because Gerard Piqué played for FC Barcelona, the family had to move to Barcelona. While he devoted himself to his career, Shakira took care of the children and had to take a step back from his career. During this time she had hardly released any music. In an interview with the music magazine “billboard” she now explains why she put herself aside: “I was loyal to him. To the family. To him.”
“I believed in ’till death do you part'”
“My priority was my home, my family. I believed in ’till death do us part,'” she says. Her parents, who have been together for around 50 years, have always been a role model for her. “That’s what I wanted for myself and my children, but it didn’t come true,” says Shakira and adds: “My greatest wish […] was to raise my sons with their father. To overcome obstacles and grow old together I know I can’t get that anymore.”
Unfortunately, Shakira’s big dream of an intact family has shattered. Things are going like clockwork for the musician at the moment: After she and her children moved to the USA after the separation, she can really get started again: “Now I have an idea and can immediately work with anyone I want. ” In Spain, however, it was much more difficult.
