Rebels in Senegal Surrender to the Government to Pave Way for Tourism to Thrive.

The rebel group, Movement of Democratic Forces of Casamance (MFDC) in the Republic of Senegal in West Africa has signed a permanent peace accord with the government to end a 32-year-old conflict in the country.

The deal was said to have been brokered in Italy by the representatives of the government and rebels on Wednesday.

Local reporters say both sides have agreed during the peace process to facilitate and commit to the deal to improve the country especially people living in the Casamance region.

The Movement of Democratic Forces of Casamance has been fighting the Senegalese government since 1982 for the independence of the Casamance region which is one of the best tourist attraction areas in the country. The area has excellent beaches along its coastline and is precisely located south of the Gambia.

The rebels target the army and occasionally plant landmines in the area which has killed thousands of people with majority of them being the security forces.

The Casamance region is made up of the Jola people and they claimed they were being marginalized by the majority ethnic group in the country, the Wolof people.

The peace accord has been one of the key priorities of the President, Macky Sall and the rebel leader, Salif Sadio said he wanted to give the peace process initiated by President a chance for the unification of the country to boost tourism.

Local reporters say the deal would certainly increase the numbers of tourists all over the world to Senegal. Senegal is one of the finest countries in Africa for tourists.

Senegal has been one of the stable African countries since its independence from France in 1960 and political analysts say the President has moved the country further in terms of its stability and unification by signing the peace accord with the rebels.
