Secret documents found in Joe Biden office
Secret papers from his time as Vice President have been found in a former office of today's US President Biden.
They have since been handed over to the National Archives. Now the Justice Department is dealing with the case.
In a former office of US President Joe Biden, documents classified as confidential or secret from his time as Vice President have surfaced. The US Department of Justice is now examining the papers found in the Washington offices of the Biden Center.
Special Counsel Richard Sauber said a small number of documents marked confidential were found on Nov. 2, 2022, when Biden’s personal attorneys vacated an office the president held after the end of his vice presidency in 2017 until well before the start of his presidential campaign in year 2019 used. They were in a “locked cupboard” inside the office, said Sauber.
Documents were given to the National Archives
Biden’s attorneys immediately notified the White House Counsel. He informed the national archive, which took over the documents the next day. Since the discovery, Biden’s personal attorneys have been working with the National Archives and the Justice Department to ensure that any documents related to the administration of ex-President Barack Obama and his Vice President Biden are properly in the National Archives’ possession, Sauber said.
Former US President Donald Trump commented on the discovery of potential secret documents on his social media platform Truth Social: “When will the FBI search Joe Biden’s many homes, maybe even the White House?” Trump wrote there.
For months, the Department of Justice has been investigating the storage of about 300 confidential or secret documents that were secured at former President Donald Trump’s Florida estate. FBI agents had executed a search warrant there in August. Originally known as the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement, the think tank is affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania and continues to operate independently of President Biden’s administration.
