Russian soldier apparently reports frostbite at the front

Since February 24, Russian troops have been trying to conquer areas in Ukraine. But there are many problems: According to reports, Putin’s soldiers are said to have suffered frostbite.

At the front, Russian soldiers have apparently suffered frostbite because they lack warm clothing. In an alleged telephone conversation apparently intercepted by the Ukrainian secret service SBU and circulated on Twitter, a Russian soldier is said to have described the situation on the war front in dramatic words. Half of the soldiers in his regiment have frostbite. The situation is worse than the war in Chechnya.

The soldier says his troops were even fired on by their own warplanes. He also sees no progress, as reported in the Russian media. Instead, you drive through villages without conquering them. As a result, you are now being attacked from all sides. There is no independent confirmation of the authenticity of the call.

Cold weather gear is missing

The US also sees signs that some Russian soldiers in Ukraine have suffered frostbite because they lack cold-weather gear. That said a senior US official quoted by several media outlets.

The official told reporters during a Pentagon briefing on Tuesday that the frostbite issue sidelined some Russian troops during the war. “You’re struggling on many fronts,” the official said, according to Task & Purpose reporter Haley Britzky.

This is another setback that Russian forces appear to be suffering in their invasion of Ukraine. A US defense official said on Monday that Russian forces were suffering from morale problems because they did not anticipate such fierce resistance from Ukraine.

Many Russian troops also do not know what orders to carry out in Ukraine, the official said. Russian forces also have communication and logistics problems in Ukraine. Again and again there are reports that the Russian soldiers have to do without a field kitchen because it is sent too late. There had also been reports that there was hardly any fuel for the tanks.

The combat effectiveness of Russian troops has fallen below 90 percent of their potential since the invasion began, a US Defense Department official says. He does not name evidence. Russia last officially reported losses on March 2nd. At that time, 498 soldiers were killed and 1,597 wounded. US government national security adviser Jake Sullivan estimates that the number of Russian soldiers killed is now in the thousands.
