Russia stops gas flow from Nord Stream 1 again

Russia halted gas supplies via Nord Stream 1 for three days

No gas has flowed through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline since today. The West suspects that there are political intentions behind Russia’s gas ban.

Gazprom had already interrupted deliveries to Germany for ten days in July; Even then, the company had given maintenance work as the reason. Most recently, Gazprom delivered around 33 million cubic meters of gas to Germany via Nord Stream 1 every day. That was 20 percent of the possible delivery quantity.

The reason given by Russia is the maintenance of a Siemens turbine, which cannot be delivered to Russia because of Western sanctions. The Federal Government considers this line of argument to be technically incomprehensible.

The decision to stop deliveries again gave fresh impetus to fears of supply shortages in the winter. The West accuses Moscow of extortion over the energy supply. After Western sanctions were imposed on Moscow for invading Ukraine, Russia had repeatedly reduced its gas supplies to Europe.

The gas is supposed to flow on Saturday

Gas deliveries from Russia to Germany via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline were stopped again on Wednesday. This emerged from data on the website of the European Network for Transmission Systems of Gas Utilities (Entsog) in the morning.

The Russian gas giant Gazprom had given the duration of the delivery stop at three days. The reason for this is therefore regular maintenance work. According to Gazprom, the gas should flow again on Saturday.
