Rihanna reveals much in a rare interview with Oprah Winfrey for the media show Oprah’s Next Chapter. When talking about the domestic abuse inflicted by ex-boyfriend R&B star Chris Brown, Rihanna grew emotional, began to cry and said she felt protective of the Chris Brown singer.
During the hotly-anticipated interview with Oprah Winfrey, 24-year-old Rihanna expresses her confusion and shame about the beating and tells Oprah she felt her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown needed help after he assaulted her.
The 23-year-old performer Chris Brown got into a physical altercation with Rihanna the night before the 2009 Grammy Awards in February. The incident happened more than 3 years ago and Rihanna has spoken candidly about it after the United States chat show host travelled to the singer’s birthplace of Barbados for the interview.
In the end Chris Brown pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced to 5 years probation, community service and one year of domestic violence counseling.

The emotionally charged interview sees the Umbrella singer Rihanna saying : ‘ I lost my best friend. Everything I knew switched, switched in a night, and I couldn’t control that. It was a weird, confusing space to be in. Because as angry as I was – as angry and hurt and betrayed – I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help. And who’s going to help him? ‘
The Barbados native singer Rihanna has told to Oprah Winfrey it was not easy for her to understand or interpret that situation around. And that its not easy to interpret on camera when the whole world is watching.
