France have been shocked by a Sex Scandal after French football stars Franck Ribéry and Karim Benzema were placed under judicial investigation on Tuesday for having paid sex with a minor.

Both Franck Ribéry and Karim Benzema along with Sidney Govou were accused of having sex with former sex worker, Zahia Dehar but it was later realized that Govou had sex with the woman after she was 18.
The legal age of sex in France is 15, however soliciting sex for someone under the age of 18 is illegal and if convicted face up to three years in prison.

Both Ribery and Benzema who both play for major clubs in Europe, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid respectively have said that they had not known that Dehar, was under the age of 18 at the time.

The incident came to light when French police raided a late night café in Paris in April where there were alleged underage sex workers.

Dehar who was arrested in at the café had told police, she had sex with several French footballers including Ribery, Benzema and Govou but she also admitted that she had not revealed her true age to the players.

Ribery, who is married with two children and also took part in the disastrous French World Cup campaign admitted to having sex with Dehar but said that he had no knowledge of her age as she looked older.
However, investigators have been suspicious of the Ribery encounter with the sex worker as it has been alleged that he bought a plane ticket for her, so that she can attend the 27-year-olds birthday celebrations in Bavaria.

Investigators believe that if this was the case then the French International who took part in the Champions League Final with Bayern Munich in the 2009-10 season would have known her age.

The allegations have also effected a possible multi million transfer bid for Karim Benzema from Premiership clubs.

The investigation is continuing.
