Reddit apparently wants to become more like Tiktok

The Reddit forum platform is said to be working on introducing video functions that are very reminiscent of the popular Tiktok tools Duett and Stitch. Whether they really come is still completely unclear.

According to a report by Techcrunch, Reddit wants to open up more short info content. To this end, the service is testing – initially only internally – various tools for video editing, which should make it easy for users to “react” to another person’s contribution or to integrate it into their own content.

Cautious tests still in planning

The project is said to be at a very early stage. Reddit has not yet entered the test phase with one or more communities. However, that is about to change, as Reddit recently confirmed. We now want to reach out to individual communities to gauge their interest in such tools: “In line with our work to help people engage with the issues that matter to them through social audio, video, text, Memes and more, we’re in the process of reaching out to a few Reddit communities to see if a new video feature we’re working on is something they’ll find useful and enjoy. After receiving feedback from Reddit users, we will conduct an initial test of this new feature.”

This project, which sounds far-fetched at first glance, is actually not so far-fetched. Reddit bought Tiktok competitor Dubsmash in 2020. Although Dubsmash was discontinued in February of this year, Reddit now wants to use the video technology in a different context.

The Reddit features that may be forthcoming are said to be similar to the Duet and Stitch features of the Tiktok video platform. On Tiktok, for example, the Duet function can be used to show your own video alongside that of another user to create remixes, parodies and the like.

The stitch function, introduced in 2020, allows you to integrate scenes from another video into your own. This is a quick way to create funny replies to viral videos. Reddit, on the other hand, already allows the integration of videos at this point in time, but does not yet have advanced editing functions.
