The horrific injury which occurred on Sunday, saw the goalkeeper air lifted by helicopter to a near by hospital and endure an hour long operation to put his tibia and fibula bones into place.
The incident which occurred on the 43rd minute of the first half saw Red Bull Salzburg goalkeeper, Eddie Gustafsson clear the ball from just outside the area when Linz striker Lukas Kragl flew into the legs of the 33-year-old breaking his left leg.
The American goalkeeper was seen in excruciating pain after the centre of his tibia bone and his knee were almost in a 90 degree angle.
Red Bull Salzburg manager, Huub Stevens, was absolutely horrified of the incident in which the referee only gave a yellow card for the 20-year-old Lukas Kragl.
Gustafsson, is expected to be out for the wrest of the year with club officials saying the injury is as bad as the leg break Arsenal’s Eduardo suffered in 2008.
The game which finished 0-0 has still changed nothing in the Austrian first division with Red Bull Salzburg who are on 69 points are still six points ahead of closest rivals Rapid Vienna 63 points.
Red Bull Salzburg will face Rapid Vienna this Friday in a game which holds great importance for the both teams and is seen as a championship game if Salzburg win.
