The winter has set cold records in North America  and even the Niagara Falls are widely frozen at temperatures below zero part. The cascade snow-dusted ice offer visitors the spectacular waterfalls an unusual sight.

“Thundering Water”, which means “Niagara” in the language of Native Americans. At least in part thunders on the border between the U.S. and Canada nothing more – up to 51 meters high waterfalls are frozen partially. Thickness of ice cover rocks and bridge railings, huge icicles and cascades seem to fall into the abyss.

The culprit is the extreme cold that has achieved in North America at some places even record lows  . A gigantic arctic air turbulence – also called Polar Vortex – has pushed into the southern United States since week beginning ice-cold polar air to deep. Even the residents of Florida and California experienced temperatures below zero , 49 U.S. cities reported a cold record for a 7 January . The coldest place in the United States was Embarrass , Minnesota , at minus 37 degrees Celsius. The sensed temperatures were due to icy winds far below .

In the northern neighbors , it did not change much : In Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa, even the cold- tested Canadians shivered in the face of unusually heavy fall of temperature , were added to the power outages . In the three cities, the streets were covered with black ice : On Monday it had rained in unusually mild temperatures before the mud froze during the Arctic cold snap .

At the Niagara Falls on Tuesday it was minus 18 degrees Celsius – Feels minus 29 degrees – cold. The icy nature of art comes the organizers of the Winter Festival of Lights just right. Up to 31 January, they illuminate the waterfalls in all colors and celebrate this with great fireworks.
