The Muslim religious party in India – Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) – has suggested that rapists should be hanged in public and co-education abolished in India.
New Delhi, Jan 7/Nationalturk – At a time when people in India are outraged over the gang rape of a 23-year-old woman, the Muslim religious party Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has suggested that rapists should be hanged in public and co-education abolished in India.
JIH Secretary General Nusrat Ali, in a statement, has strongly condemned the gang rape of a woman in a moving bus in Indian capital and other such offences across the country.
“There should be provision for capital punishment for heinous crimes such as rape. These punishments should be given in public and there should be opportunity for people to witness the same so that it might act as deterrent to such heinous crimes,” he said.
Most of the people in India have been demanding capital punishment to the rapists of a 23-year-old female, who died last week after being gang raped in a moving bus in Indian capital on December 16. The victim was raped and beaten with iron rods in a moving bus by six persons. She alongwith her male friend, who was also beaten with iron rods, was dumped on a road in a semi-naked condition. 13 days after being gang raped, the 23-year-old girl died in a Singapore hospital.
The JIH Secretary General also suggested that co-education should be abolished. “The proper education facilities meant exclusively for women should be available at all level of education. Educational institutions should prescribe sober and dignified dress for girls,” he said.
“All sex outside marriage including live-in-relationship should be declared illegal and punishable,” Nusrat Ali said.
Gang rape victim as guilty as her rapists: Hindu spiritual guru
Meanwhile, Hindu Spiritual Guru Asaram Bapu in a controversial statement has said that December 16 Delhi gang-rape victim was as guilty as those responsible for the barbaric sexual assault on her.
“Only 5-6 people are not the culprits. The victim is as guilty as her rapists. She should have called the culprits’ brothers and begged before them to stop. This could have saved her dignity and life. Can one hand clap? I don’t think so,” Asaram Bapu was quoted as having said in media.
The Hindu spiritual guru said he is against harsh punishments for the accused, as the law could be mis-utilised.
“We have often seen such laws are made to be mis-utilised. Dowry harassment law is the biggest example,” he said.
The Hindu guru’s statement is likely to anger people, who are already demanding stern punishment against the rapists and tough anti-rape legislation.
