Putin confidant found with gunshot wound to the head – alleged suicide
A confidant of Kremlin chief Putin has been found dead. Officially it is said to have been a suicide. But there are doubts about this version.
A former minister of the “Luhansk People’s Republic” appointed by Russia has been found dead. Konstantin Zavizenov was previously minister for oil, energy and coal in the area of Ukraine not recognized under international law.
The 50-year-old was found by his son in a country house in the Moscow district of Istra, reports the Russian state news agency Ria Novosti. Law enforcement authorities told the news agency that the death was provisionally classified as a suicide. However, there are doubts about this version.
Doubts about suicide explanation
For example, Ukrainian racing driver Igor Sushko, who works for the US think tank Wind of Change Research Group, claims that Zavizenov was murdered by a gunshot wound to the head, he writes on X. “He was only one degree separated from Putin himself by the Kovalchuk mafia family.”
According to the Russian report, Zavizenov was drunk for a week and a half before his death. His son found a suicide note and alcohol on a table before hearing a gunshot. His wife also allegedly filed for divorce after catching Zavizenov having an affair.
The oligarch Zavizenov is said to have financial ties to the Kremlin. He worked for a company owned by the son of the oligarch Boris Kuvalchuk, who is also known as “Putin’s banker.” Zavizenov was subject to sanctions by the EU and Great Britain.
