Prince William had to steel himself not to cry over his late mum as he wed Kate Middleton last year, he has revealed.
Prince William, 29, told for the first time of his anguish that Diana did not live to meet Kate or to be with them on their big day. But he said he felt his mother would have enjoyed the wedding and been proud of the couple.
He said: “I sort of prepared myself beforehand so that I was mentally prepared… I didn’t want any wobbly lips or anything going on.
“It’s the one time since she’s died, where I’ve … I’ve thought to myself it would be fantastic if she was here, and just how sad really for her, more than anything, not being able to see it.
William’s on Princess Diana heartache
“I think she would have loved the day and I think, hopefully, she’d be very proud of us both for the day. I’m just very sad that she’s never going to get a chance to meet Kate.”
Prince William revealed his sorrow in an interview alongside brother Prince Harry for a US TV Queen’s Diamond Jubilee special. Harry added that he felt Diana had been at the Westminster Abbey wedding in spirit.
