There should be a more relaxed appearance in a music show. But Prince Charles brought the moderator so from the concept that this is not brought out a straight set. Some 40 years later the Prince now sends his interview partner a special message.
When the future king of England sitting next to a, can ever be nervous. This experience had to make Molly Meldrum as he conducted an interview with Prince Charles in the late seventies.
Meldrum received Charles, back in the late 20, in the popular Australian music program “Countdown”. The two men sat next to each other and obviously brought the presence of the heir to the moderator completely out of sync.
Right at the beginning, Meldrum stumbled. “And now for the important part -” He broke off, asked for a glass of water. Charles remained royal-relaxed, asked: “Do you have any of these teleprompter?” No.
There were other, sometimes desperate attempts to announce the Prince – in vain. Meldrum stumbled from set to set, got tangled up again, and finally gave up: “Your Royal Highness, I’m sweating like a pig.”
Prince Charles finally got up from his chair, so that the moderator could concentrate better. Without success, Meldrum began to grumble. An employee knocked him yet encouragingly on the shoulder – nothing.
On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the mission, the Prince of Wales has again expressed to the charmingly awkward interview. “In showbiz, there is the old rule, never work with animals or children”, the Royal begins his speech. “But no one prepared me for Molly Meldrum.”
In a video message, the 65-year-old mimics the botched intro – with precision. Among other things, he also asks for a glass of water. Last congratulates the Prince but still great. “It was a night I will never forget.” Also for Molly Meldrum. Although he said he does not regret the interview. But he had the “definitely screwed up”.
