Prague airport carried 5 times more passengers
Prague Airport handled five times more people year-on-year in the first half of the year
Václav Havel Prague Airport handled almost 4.29 million passengers during the first half of this year.
This is more than a five-fold increase compared to last year, but compared to the period before the covid crisis, it is 45 percent less. This follows from the statistics of Prague Airport. Traffic at the airport is growing throughout this year, the airport expects more than ten million passengers for the whole year.
The number of checked-in passengers for the first half of this year is almost the same as for the whole of last year, when the airport handled 4.38 million people. On the contrary, in 2019, i.e. before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the airport handled a record 17.8 million passengers.
Traffic at the airport is increasing every month this year. In June, for the first time in almost two and a half years, the airport exceeded the million mark of checked-in passengers in one calendar month, there were 1.16 million of them.
In addition, a further increase can be expected during the holiday months, with up to 2.7 million passengers expected to handle between July and August.
The most popular destination in the first six months was London, followed by Paris and Amsterdam. The busiest countries were flights to Great Britain, Italy and Spain.
The number of flights at the Prague airport is gradually increasing. In the first half of the year, 44,833 of them took place, three times more year-on-year.
Problems across Europe
Airports across Europe report a rush of passengers during the summer, which often complicates their operations. This is due to delays in checks and check-in of passengers or luggage. The reason for this is mainly the lack of staff after the pandemic, when the airport laid off workers due to reduced traffic.
For example, in Great Britain, the Netherlands and other countries, some flights are also canceled because of this. So far, Prague Airport has not had to do this, but it also lacks dozens of workers.
Václav Havel Prague Airport offers direct flights to approximately 150 destinations during the summer season. Among them are new or renewed connections to New York or Riyadh, with a number of other places increasing the frequency of flights. Before the crisis, there were flights from Prague to 190 locations in the summer.
