Photos with reels character: Instagram tests pictures in video format 9:16

The Instagram-typical photo format could soon be passé, because the app is currently testing images in video format 9:16.

Will photo creators soon have to say goodbye to the square format typical of Instagram? Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri recently confirmed that the company is testing a new, full-screen, scrollable, immersive feed that closely resembles TikTok’s For You Page. Social media expert Matt Navarra has now shared on Twitter that Instagram is also currently exploring the possibility of uploading full-screen images from 9:16.

In the screenshot, when asked if Instagram is currently testing 9:16 images, Mosseri responds with “This is something we’re currently exploring.”

Instagram relies more and more on “vertical storytelling”

With the 9:16 format for image posts, the social app would push its Reels offensive even more and resemble the competing app TikTok even more. Instagram recently announced that it is even testing a following tab for reels – a feature that reflects the TikTok app experience. The adjustment of Instagram to TikTok is thus continuing. Also exciting is that the Meta App has announced a major visual update that includes a new font, among other things.
